Light is the silent universal expression of the greatest force our senses can grasp.
—Thomas Wilfred
Light in the night curves & bends, rustles fronds and lays against the lines. Backlit in the vast beyond, circles twirl across the hues of blue. And textured pink with sparks of gold adhere—then flow—with the wildest waves of hair. A primal touchstone or a faceted gem? Keep a watchful eye on the strands of time.

When golden hour previews and the sun slips out of sight, you can breathe into the chameleon twilight—release the petty shrapnel from the harsh glare of day. With skies alive as evening deepens, colors tinge, reflections beckon, and shadowy movements swing & sway. For nocturnal creatures wired like me, it’s the deepest, luminous blue of infinite heavens that awakens my mind and romances my soul.
Fantasy has a dark side to it. It also has a light hemisphere — the power of the human imagination to keep going, to imagine a better tomorrow.
—Tim O’Brien
With the changing of our clocks, we can finally let the sun shine when it should and allow the seep of increasing darkness to embrace & enhance our imagination. Didn’t we vote (multiple times) to end this time-tampering with nature’s wisdom & empower the universe to guide our vision(s)? We did (overwhelmingly) but lawmakers couldn’t get it together to agree. Still, never mind. We can revisit this another day as true sunrise & sunset settle in. We may fall back an hour to reconcile the hours of light & dark, but we must never fall back to a earlier time when our rights & sights were captive. We must focus all our lumens NOW to secure our FREEDOM(S), which currently lie in peril dripping with the sticky ooze of lies, lies & more lies. We have a choice! We have the right to choose, the right to love whomever, the right to gender & racial equality, the right to freedom of speech and of the press, the right to equal opportunity, the right to decency & the right to our democracy. Please VOTE!
You see—it’s the light in the dark I love—night vision(s). And you?
Looking at the new moon and Venus in the sky tonight gives me hope. Thanks for your eloquent encouragement. Yes I voted!
This piece brought to mind the paintings of Maxfield Parrish. He is my favorite artist because of his brilliant use of light. There are so many lovely sentences in this post: “Keep a watchful eye on the strands of time;” “… release the petty shrapnel from the harsh glare of day”; “… dripping with the sticky ooze of lies …” Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece, and yes, I did vote.
I voted all the way from Australia.
My first thought was…too little too late.
But I’m going to keep looking for the light. Thank you for always reminding me of my humanity, of the beauty, precision, and power of language.
Your words never fail to move and inspire.
Thank you, you beautiful, enlightened being.
From the lovely and lyrical night to the harsh illuminations of day, beautifully written.
